Groundwork is a charity working nationally and regionally to transform communities across the UK. We help people gain confidence and skills, get into training and work, lead more active lives and overcome significant challenges such as fuel poverty, isolation, skills gaps and poor health. For over 15 years Green Doctors have been helping residents stay warm and well while saving money on their household bills through our free service.
The latest Government research, published in 2019, has shown that although the South East had the lowest proportion of fuel poor households at 8.7% it has the highest average gap of £449. The Average gap is the reduction in fuel bill that the average fuel poor household needs in order to not be classed as fuel poor.*
Fuel poverty impacts heavily on the health and well-being of some of the most vulnerable residents, including families with young children and the elderly. This is why we are bringing the expertise of our London Green Doctors to the South East, starting in Kent and Medway. The London Green Doctors visited over 3,300 households in London last year, helping people to reduce their energy bills, improve their wellbeing and save energy.
On average the Groundwork London Green Doctors saved households they visited £350 a year. With the average annual gap that places a household into fuel poverty being £333, the Green Doctor service is effectively lifting thousands of households out of fuel poverty each and every year.
